Gastric bypass is one of the oldest bariatric procedures still currently being performed. The first gastric bypass was performed in 1960’s. This operation has now involved into 2 separate operations – Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and the one anastomosis gastric bypass.
In this operation, using keyhole techniques, you make a small pouch of the stomach and join the bulk of the stomach directly. The main indication for this operation currently is patients with severe symptomatic reflux or endoscopic diagnosis of severe reflux oesophagitis.

It is very effective especially in patients who have insulin dependant Diabetes or are on multiple medications for metabolic syndromes.
